Overall this experience was disappointing. We arrived 5 minutes before the time , however we had to wait a further 30 minutes and we had no clue why. We then called Houdini and they asked us to wait longer. I would hope that if I have booked a room for a certain time , the room would be ready. Furthermore , one of the staff told us to wait to sort it out but she wasn’t really making any effort. The staff doing our game looked like she didn’t want to be there . The whole experience had a gloomy atmosphere. This has to be the worse experience I’ve had at an escape room . In addition, the staff has to keep opening the room to give us clues, this took way from the whole escape room experience.
It was a very pleasant experience and the rules and experience was explained very clearly and transparently. The workers there I think she’s called grace was very nice and helpful as a host and I would definitely recommend others to come
We had a terrible experience at Houdini’s Escape Room Kingston - Escape from Alcatraz. Having paid £30 per person for a New Year’s Day experience, we were let down not getting our money’s worth. We had been to the two other Escape Room operators in Kingston many times and had very good experience there but thought we would try out Houdini for a change. First off, we started 15min late as it seems the room was not open or ready. A lot of things did not work and wasted our time. Our host had to keep coming in the room to give us clues or sort out issues as the communication via radio was not working (we had to knock on the door if we needed anything.). So it hardly felt we were “locked” which spoiled the experience. The host could not spot via cctv that we solved a clue that should have opened a door so we wasted time before the operator came in to help and realised what she had missed. A sticker that was part of a clue was missing from an object so we wasted more time until we asked the host and she wasn’t sure what was missing. She ended up giving the wrong information which caused us more delay until she checked again and corrected. We solved another clue but it didn’t reveal the next clue until the operator came in to just verbally provide the answer. We don’t even know how it should have been revealed. So disappointing! We solved the final clue by just a few seconds to deadline but it did not trigger the escape code. It was only when the operator came in to say we had failed to escape that we asked what was the solution to the final clue - we found out that we actually got it right but she either did not hear our answer via the microphones or the escape code was not triggered automatically. The Kingston Alcatraz escape room should not be operating with all these faults. It’s not the fault of the person hosting us at the time - she had to do her best with the poor state of equipment and props. The system and the props need to be repaired otherwise Houdini is just ripping off its customers of an experience. I would say to potential customers- don’t go until the problems are sorted. Don’t settle for less. Our £90 for the three of us was wasted on a shabby experience.
